The first capital of Japan was in Nara before Kyoto. There exist many ancient
tombs of various emperors as well as ruins of palace and temples in Nara
since 3rd century.
Therefore, Nara was the cradle of Japanese culture, arts and crafts. Buddhism
first flourished here in Nara since its introduction in Japan under the
strong patronage of successive Emperors.
Walking through the city's quiet streets is like strolling through the pages of history.
In Nara, you will find the biggest bronze Buddha in the world as well as the oldest wooden temple, and there are several historical monuments listed in the World cultural Heritage.
There are about 370,000 inhabitants in Nara city and 1.4 million in Nara prefecture.
